Muscles can hurt after a vigorous day of exercise or work, especially if you aren’t exercising on a regular basis and then really go for it. Activities that you repeat daily can also tighten muscles and cause them to cramp. The oil formula below is excellent for lower back or shoulder pain, tight muscles from working at a computer, or the after effects of physical exercise.
Even menstrual cramps, which are really little more than the cramping of the uterine muscle, respond well to this herb. By the way, this same remedy can be used as a first-aid treatment along with ice on sprains and bruises. The sooner it is applied, the better. It reduces the swelling and pain and promotes faster healing.
With the Comfrey Balm. use before exercising to increase blood circulation and warmth to an area rather than waiting until afterwards. By doing so, the balm works like a mini warm-up for the muscles. You’ll still want to do your warm-up exercises, but the combination will help to prevent muscle cramps. You can then use the balm afterwards to relax the muscles and minimise any soreness.
Best use is after a shower and apply as needed on affected areas.
Please note; Try not to use last thing at night unless you wish to stay up. Some of the essential oils are used to boost energy. Its an awesome balm for the morning stiffness.
Comfrey (Symphytum officinale)
Comfrey contains allantoin, a substance known to aid granulation and cell formation – which is what the healing process is all about. The effectiveness of this valuable plant can now be accounted for, and is therefore more widely accepted. Generally we use an infusion (strong tea) of fresh or dried leaves, either to soak a part such as a sore finger or to dab on a cut with cotton wool.
Comfrey has been called “The Knitbone herb” for ages due to its stories of fusing bones, repairing breaks and fractures. It’s also been said that it proliferates cells (including skin cells) and re-mineralises bones and teeth.
Comfrey should not be applied to open wounds or broken skin as it’s ability to heal is so fast, debri could be trapped inside causing an abscess. Do not apply Comfrey to broken bones without being set first. Limit use in pregnancy and do not drink internally as it is toxic to the liver.
